Samurai Castle
Samurai Castle is an acrylic painting that depicts Osaka Castle in the early evening hours, illuminated by the warm glow of modern lighting. Once a focal point of Japan’s sixteenth-century unification efforts, the castle has been rebuilt multiple times after fires and wars, standing as a quiet testament to endurance and renewal.
I painted this piece from a low vantage point to emphasize its impressive eight-story height, and highlight both the structure’s physical presence and its symbolic strength. By overlaying contemporary illumination onto historic architecture, this piece reflects the continuity between past and present, and serves as a reminder of human resilience and importance of tradition.
